You don’t want a user to keep on submitting random responses to a survey, right? Keep a cap on the number of responses a user can submit. Let’s see how to enable the “Limit submissions per user” functionality for your survey.
1 . Log in to your SurveySparrow account and navigate to the Build part of a survey.
2. Go to the Config section.

3. Under Configurations, enable the “Limit submissions per user” toggle.

Here, you can choose to set a fixed number of submissions that a respondent can submit once forever or reset the limits at the end of each recurring period.
If you intend to have the survey submission per user fixed for the survey’s lifetime, enter the number of submissions and select the “Never” option under “Limit Resets”.

For example, if the submissions per user are limited to 5, the user can submit up to 5 responses for the entirety of the survey’s active period.
On the other hand, if you intend the replenish the submission limit after a time period, enter the number of submissions and select the “Every” option. Enter the duration after which you want the submission limit to refill. The refilling cycle can be in days, weeks, months, or years.
For example, if the submissions per user are limited to once every two weeks, the user can submit a maximum of one response every two weeks.
Limit submission based on variable values
This allows you to control survey submissions at the level of a respondent’s selected answers, not just at the respondent level. Instead of only limiting how many times a user can submit the survey overall, you can define limits based on specific combinations of variables in the survey.
When this is enabled, the system checks both the respondent and the values they select (for example, Subject and Language). If the same respondent tries to submit the same combination again, the submission is blocked. However, the respondent can still submit the survey for a different combination of values.
A company wants to collect feedback for different customer experiences across branches and service channels.
Each customer should be allowed to submit only once for each Branch + Channel combination.
So a customer can:
But they cannot submit the same combination twice.
Each branch–channel pair is treated as a separate experience.
4. Enable the option “Limit submissions based on variable values.”
5. Choose the variables that will be used to restrict submissions by combination.
6. Click the “Save” button to confirm the configuration.
You have successfully configured “Limit submissions per user” for your survey! Well, that’s how simple it is to have a ceiling on the number of responses a user can submit.
